Counting the Days and the Issues

20151222-pageone-davao-mayor-rody-duterte-merry-chritmass-greeting

As much as I do not want to elaborate my perception towards the bombings in the Davao Night Market, I simply think that the explosion is a terrorist plot against President Rodrigo Duterte and the motive for me is psychological because it surely hit his stronghold and to redirect the president’s attention from his war on drugs to securing his stronghold, Davao and the country.

For the moment, the Abu Sayyaf Group is the one to blame for they are the closest terrorist group. Unless the Islamic State of Iran and Syria (ISIS) has truly invaded the country through influence. Another thing that made the incident possible is drug lords that sought refuge to groups like the ASG for the right price.

International spotlight

The one angle that made the Davao explosion happened is the president’s all out war on drugs. Through his close ally, Philippine National Police director general, Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, that really caught the attention of the international media through which Senator Alan Peter Cayetao and Leila de Lima told their versions of what happening to Christiane Amanpour on CNN. Senator Cayetano is cleary on the president’s side since he was Duterte’s running mate, while Leila de Lima is on the contrary.

When the Philippines makes the international headlines in this manner, I’m not that thrilled because simply because it is negative but on the bright side, we are telling the world that we are taking action no matter what it takes.

President Obama was supposed to meet with Duterte in Laos while the G20 summit is taking place. I heard the news that it didn’t push through while I was on my way to school. Which makes me think that Obama is neither ready to face the rough-talking president or they are both occupied with their own obligations. It kept me wondering why didn’t the meeting push through.

This supposed meeting takes me back to what my professor in theology said in his liberal view last Friday. In which he said that Obama wants to meet with Duterte not to tell him of how he should handle the war on drugs properly but to ask Duterte if he could bring back US troops and reestablish bases here.

It’s not simply helping out the Armed Forces of the Philippines to make the Chinese forces run with their heels but for the US to pursue their interests here in the Philippines.

As the exaggeration begins on why President Duterte called President Obama a “son of a *****”, I am now thinking that our president deliberately called it off because he does not really want a foreign power like Obama and the United States to tell him how he should really address the war on drugs and this makes the Philippines defiant for some people. And the action driving the Americans away for us to be left vulnerable against China.

Towards Day 100

The president is beyond his fiftieth day in office for his first one hundred days. The one thing I’m glad about this is how his administration is taking action in each department.

Although questionable of the manner they carry out their operations, I have no issues with the police. The transport department is getting things done slowly but surely. I just hope that with Duterte’s term, they can truly restore the train lines and place more trains.

The justice department should really expand city jails. I pity the criminals detained for they are trying their best to make the most of the spaces they are in. And Jay Taruc’s documentary in GMA7’s i-Witness is enough evidence that city jails and penitentiaries across the Philippines need some expansion. More important is how one prisoner has been detained longer than he should have been because of how slow the process of justice here in the Philippines and reforms should be made to make the process beneficial for both sides.

It’s just a few weeks away before his first one hundred days are over. It’ll be over quick if one person would just sleep on the succeeding days or a person is preoccupied with academics that he fails to check the news.

There are more issues bigger than this in the days to come, and they have yet to unfold.

Six months down

june-2016-printable-calendar

It is now the month of June. The year is halfway done.

Schools in all over the Philippines will no longer open simultaneously this month because universities like the University of Sto. Tomas, Ateneo de Manila and all of the UP Campuses from Luzon, Visayas to Mindanao have shifted their academic calendars. Another thing is De La Salle University no longer starts their school year at May, moving the start of their school year to August.

Schools around the University Belt would still open this month if not one day after another, one week after another.  That also includes the schools of Muralla from PLM, Manila High School, Mapua, Lyceum and Letran

The rainy days are coming as well and it’s that time again to prepare rubber boots and raincoats to conquer the floods.

Thank God that some of the students of UST will no longer have to suffer the rainy days of June. But there’s still the onslaught of August all the way to October.

On my part, finally I will be roaming Letran as a full-fledge journalism major because I will now have majors as I enroll next week. I hope to find peace of mind with the program and classes that I will be attending. The best part of this is I only have one 7AM class!

In sports, June declares the winner of the NBA if the Warriors get to finish this series next game. In this month, the NCAA begins and the hope of defending the title will soon be witnessed for Letran. In baseball, teams are players are now starting to feel the hardships of the season in order to see if some can make it for the postseason on October. Football in Europe for Euro 2016 has now begun and I hope I get to see Germany and its line up so I could project what their lineup could be two years from now for the FIFA World Cup 2018.

The month of June as of the moment still mourns for the passing of Muhammad Ali. Everyone in the world is really grieving but rather than tears, athletes and different personalities looked on the bright side of his passing.

In the Philippines, on June 12; the country does not really celebrate its independence. We do not really celebrate our independence because Emilio Aguinaldo declared our independence prematurely. So premature that we didn’t know the Americans were about to set foot and eventually the Americans would fire their weapon towards a Filipino, igniting the Filipino-American War.

We are forced to commemorate a premature independence that dates back to 1898. For some it is the day of sovereignty. But how could we celebrate our sovereignty if the Chinese keeps on invading our waters?

For a person like me, it doesn’t matter if it’s South China or West Philippine Sea. Point is that this body of water is far away from Mainland China and closer to Hong Kong and Vietnam. Renaming this body of water would just make it harder not only for me but also for the countries claiming, fighting for their rights on some parts of it.

Days from now, we will no longer address Rodrigo Duterte as president-elect; as he makes it official by taking his oath-of-office on June 30 together with Leni Robredo as she will also take her oath as vice-president of this country.

I just don’t know what Duterte and Marcos discussed last night. But I think it’s something big. Probably a government position reserved just for Bongbong.

For the first one hundred days of the Duterte administration, I do not expect infrastructures just yet. But expect criminals doing their best to go deep, so deep that you will no longer use the term underground for their criminal activities. People like them trying their best not to get caught by the authorities. Because right now, just nineteen days before Duterte takes his oath-of-office the news networks here have been featuring a lot of drug busts, drug pushers and all kinds of criminals, and criminals trying their very best in begging to Duterte before the camera not to rot in jail with the fear of the death penalty that could possibly get back in this government if the next congress would pass it.

Talk about drugs, getting high for the wrong reasons and even getting laid, I was really saving this thought for a different post, on why you can’t make me go to raves, clubs and parties, like Close Up’s Forever Summer or Hydro Manila that gets to enter schools like my school or wherever. One factor that can’t make me come to raves is there’s no real music. How is EDM music, really?! It’s for singles to hook up that they should just wear a shirt that says, “I DON’T WANT TO BE A VIRGIN ANYMORE, I WANT TO GET LAID”, rather than wearing skimpy and revealing outfits for girls. While guys try to wear tank tops making themselves look like f*** boys with muscles jacked up by steroids. Another person should wear a shirt that says, “I HAVE CANDY AND IT’S FREE OF CHARGE.” Then you realize that you just chewed drugs and you end up literally drop dead after inducing those drugs.

Events like this and the incident that occurred on Close Up’s event should really get the attention of the very top because as Duterte said from his campaign ads and those debates, he hates drug. In his first hundred days, people working at the Dangerous Drugs Board together with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency should be able to classify the drugs like this as very dangerous and should be labeled for the moment as “Party Drugs” — more dangerous than marijuana and alcohol.

Do not tell that I’m missing half of my life by not coming with you and attending these events.

Another expectation in his first one hundred days is that I do not expect the number of trains in the MRT or LRT lines to increase just yet, because the last secretary of the DOTC screwed with the transactions of how things will go for the MRT and the LRT with the number of trains and the improvement of each stations. For example, some the escalators of LRT-2’s Recto Station no longer work. The electronic screen that flashes how long before the next train arrives no longer flashes those red lights. As for the Santolan Station, the x-rays machines for bags no longer work.

One thing I would really like to see happen in his first one hundred days is to ease traffic by regulating the sales of cars from car dealers and their showrooms to second hand dealers. Another thing that the incoming administration should do is to impose a huge amount of tax to car owners that they will be discouraged to pay the tax and take the taxi instead.

In this month, we celebrate and honor Sir Paul McCartney and I hope Sir Paul is okay because I am bummed that legends like Muhammad Ali, David Bowie, Prince, Maurice White from the hit group Earth, Wind and Fire, Alan Rickman have passed on. I don’t want another legend dying with the year halfway done.

(KNOCK ON WOOD)

The worst thing that happened today in music if you’re a fan of The Voice in the US is the shocking news that their alumna Christina Grimmie has died. Sad for her fans and it’s just wrong.

Politicians in the United States should do something with their laws for owning guns and gun control. Because no one in the world wants to be shocked with the news that a person fired this gun and these shots towards a crowd in a mall, a preschool, or anywhere, when some in their hotel rooms or homes gets hold of the remote and switch it to news channels like CNN of Fox.

I only wish for better days ahead and I only have a few days to go before my school starts on June 29. I don’t even know how to make it last, the way my sister does right now by binge-watching Grey’s Anatomy.

I have a hard drive. But I don’t know what movie to watch with it when I get to plug it behind our TV while she’s there watching Grey’s on our PC because me, my sister and brother share the same room and we do not have a headset so she can intimately binge watch it.

I just want her to leave and go to Korea right now together with everyone in her school this month.

MULA SA INIT NG AKING ULO

168590_190287204319839_6855677_n

RECONSIDERING RODRIGO DUTERTE

duterte

After reading Lourd de Veyra’s post in This Is A Crazy Planets for Rodrigo Duterte and his projected inaugural speech on spot.ph I have considered the option of voting for the badass mayor in 2016. Another thing that made me reconsider Duterte is the so-called forum that happened in De La Salle University in which he and his running mate Allan Peter Cayetano are the only tandem who attended the forum which looked more of a campaign just with that university and the things he said in that forum.

Voting for Duterte is good for some of the people but if we really think hard about it, are we really ready for a person like him to run the country especially for people who are not accustomed or used to see news of someone being dumped in the Pasig River or getting hanged in billboards surrounded by people in Quiapo or EDSA with a sign also attached to them like a necklace with the signs saying; “Pusher ako”, “Rapist ako”, “Adik ako” for that matter. More important is for the funeral parlors to be ready to cater a lot of corpses than they use to.

If we vote for the man over any other candidate, he can really win the GOD DAMNED THING. Because everyone is tired of seeing trapos doing these not so subtle commercials that they are already campaigning themselves.

If Duterte really wins the 2016 election don’t expect the crime rate to easily go down that fast but the fear of Duterte himself and the Davao Death Squad will be there for the motherfuckers who dare to make a move under his presidency. I would be thrilled than fearful to see some criminals floating in the Pasig River. If not floating in the river probably placed inside a barrel or drum in very narrow alley within Metro Manila. The Davao Death Squad will now become the Philippine National Death Squad possibly getting rid of the incompetent policemen who are as incompetent and fat like the chief of police in ‘The Simpsons’, Chief Wiggum and replacing the Philippine National Police as a whole.

In that forum at DLSU, it’s good to hear his plans for agriculture since Mindanao has rich rice fields and plantations of some sorts which from my understanding, is really the backbone of the country’s economy not just the region itself. Not these developers who are trying hard to make skyscrapers and skylines. Even ruin Jose Rizal’s background.

When he becomes president, I only hope and pray hard that he can solve the traffic problem in Metro Manila because every mayor in each city of Metro Manila is not really capable of easing the problem but for one thing; Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada and Vice Mayor Isko Moreno did this truck ban to ease the traffic in Manila but then lifted the ban because of pressure from truck drivers and business owners who find it hard to make things work during the window hours.

I hope he plans to regulate the number of cars being sold to individuals and also limiting bus liners to have only this number of buses under each franchises or bus liners. We hope that Duterte encourages people to take public transportation and increase the number of trains for all lines whether it’s the MRT, LRT or even the PNR. Point is we need more trains.

He should have the idea to establish a railroad program that will establish a line that would distribute cargo easily so that cargo vessels won’t have a hard time distributing goods from the Bureau of Customs and ports across the country.

Since Duterte is a law graduate, I hope he improves the justice system with reforms that would bring back the trust and faith of the people who has completely lost their trust and faith with the system. I would like to see a much faster process in the justice system in which appeals will be limited to only one appeal. As for entrusting the justice system I only trust someone who graduated from UP, San Beda, and Ateneo to run the justice system particularly, the Supreme Court.

I don’t really mind Duterte bringing back the death penalty if he wants to because it is just practical because no one is afraid of going to jail these days. His future secretary of justice should have a reform in the penal system that makes corrupt officials eligible for death penalty that would surely get rid of some corrupt officials in power so that they can no longer contaminate the world. They should also turn things around in the New Bilibid Prison by depriving the prisoners of their VIP treatment like Tony Leviste who can enter and exit Bilibid whenever he wants so as Rolito Go, and many other prisoners serving lifetime sentences because of their high profile case. Also get rid of prisoners who can make music videos just within the facility. Give them hell on earth.

With the issue of Duterte taking mathematics out of the curriculum, I completely disagree with his idea of getting rid of math at all because how can one person become qualified to study engineering, architecture, and a business course if one student does not know how to calculate? I may have struggle with the subject especially in Behavioral Statistics when I was still a psychology major but getting rid of math will only benefit the delinquents who struggled with math many times.

Schools in the provinces should expand and have more classrooms because I’m really tired of seeing public schools having this shortage of classes and especially the lack of updated textbooks.

The DSWD under his presidency should not be the DSWD that we know today because of pilfering the relief goods that came to benefit the victims of typhoon Yolanda then hiding the poor and homeless whenever a big time dignitary comes to the country like the ones Dinky Soliman brought to a resort during the Pope’s visit in January 2015.

The DPWH should progress efficiently not only work very fast with Duterte as president especially with the construction of the Skyway because if the people working at the DPWH do not want to lose their jobs they should really do well if they do not want to get a standing ovation from his middle finger and the big PUTANG INA NIYO from his mouth.

It is not only the Skyway that needs to get done under his term or any other candidate. There should be something that would really connect the archipelago under his term from bridges and much stronger Roro boats.

Taking the Commission on Human Rights out of the picture as he wants to is not really a solution because the CHR is just this organization telling us how to care for helpless human beings even if they are criminals who has their pair of testicles tied to a string being pulled by a loose cannon cop traumatizing the criminal to not do it again. But let’s be honest here, Duterte does not only want to get rid of the CHR because of Etta Rosales’ predecessor, Leila de Lima because the way I see it, he only wants to get rid of the criminals and their human right to have a lawyer and seek fair trial.

As for his disputes happening as early as now, it’s not really entertaining to see aspiring presidents talk bad things about each before the campaign proper and the debates because it’s like spoilers to a movie that you have long waited for another sequel then it would just be ruined by a childish argument. But for both Duterte and Roxas, keep it going.

If it is really Election Day tomorrow in the Philippines, I would really vote and pray hard for this guy to win so that the D.O.M. living next to us would stop ranting that he regrets coming back to the Philippines after living in Japan for twenty years.

When Pia Left Me In Awe

gallery_photo1450675101DD4_5528

You thought I wouldn’t post something like this am I right?

I don’t really post or comment something about beauty pageants like Miss Universe or any other pageants out there but this is something I will try make this short, simple, and precise. This won’t tackle Steve Harvey’s manning up and taking full responsibility of that mistake or Miss Colombia’s very, very short reign and walk. But again Steve Harvey, you had us at accepting that first runner-up and Miss Colombia sorry for that very short walk and wearing that crown in a short while.

I didn’t expect so much from Miss Philippines for this year’s Miss Universe because in the years Shamcey Supsup (2011) and Janine Tugonon (2012) were in the Miss Universe, I kind of jinxed their pageants when they reached the world stage. So for Pia I didn’t really get my hopes up for her before the pageant commenced. When she was still in Binibining Pilipinas, I honestly doubted her for being a repeater of the pageant. So if Pia Wurtzbach knows me in some way, she would definitely give me this fierce look below until she walks away.

pia-wurtzbach-dominates-the-miss-universe

I was not yet born the last time Philippines won Miss Universe with Margarita “Margie” Moran in 1973. I was still in diapers when Charlene Gonzales gave that “high tide or low tide answer” for her question and answer portion. When my late grandmother was still around we would always watch the pageant with her  and the whole it’s really something to watch for and  Lola also wants to get ideas for styling up her customers when we still have our parlor.

I don’t remember what hairstyle Lola tried to replicate to her customers from her years in that parlor and watching pageants and even buying those entertainment magazines but I know she did her best with that hair and makeup those years. Of course her employees would stop working just to watch it on their TV making it the most beautiful day in the universe.

Pia has not been Miss Universe for a week and with her reign since Monday (Manila Time) so much has come out of the internet and recently, some guy who claims to be her ex boyfriend is the most bizarre post I’ve seen so far. It doesn’t matter if that’s true or not because the point is, too bad for you bro if you really did hook up with her. Other than that post are the memes featuring her awkward moment with Miss Colombia. Pia’s startled look and many angles of her coming out with different captions that everyone can relate with almost everything from academics, love life and many others which some are both amusing and disturbing.

Other than her win, I’m just happy that it’s not a Latina year again because for one thing I am tired of Latin Americans winning the pageant all the time whether it’s Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Argentina or Mexico. Nothing against Latin Americans but it’s really high time not just for us if Pia was not on the top three but also for the other candidates coming from other continents. One thing to be amazed was when Angola was crowned Miss Universe in 2011. I even thought of France winning the pageant out-of-sympathy and that she would get that crown because her country was devastated by that terrorist group who dares to attack Russia but that’s going to be another politically influenced issue and another heartbreak year for the Philippines. More important is that Donald Trump no longer has control of the pageant after those forgettable remarks about Hispanics crossing the border of the United States and Mexico also those remarks about banning Muslims in the US.

As for her answer to that first part of the question and answer portion, I don’t find that wrong and it was just the right answer because let’s face it that we need US presence in the country in these times and we cannot just let China screw around with our natural resources, oceans and disputed islands. We don’t have enough arms to fight off China and why hate the United State for establishing bases in the country. It may be hard to look back on some events that made this love-hate relationship with the United States because at the end of the day, the influence of the Americans on us for me outlasted Spain’s influence in certain aspects from language, culture, government system and sports as such.

Enough of the politics that surrounded her answer and so for all the girls out there, here’s your inspiration not only to try and succeed in pageants but also to live out her values of being beautiful and confident.

Anything and Everything APEC

APEC 2015

With the APEC Summit drawing to a close and with the things that I see thus far in the summit is nothing but a show. It doesn’t seem that the country won’t benefit so much in the long run. It’s bothering that they always show the issue on how the rerouting affected the citizens terribly, activists protesting that the APEC is nothing but a big show, the President of Mexico and Prime Minister of Canada as media eye-candy for some especially my sister who volunteered in ushering and picking up delegates from NAIA to that hotel in Makati where me and my friend sneaked-in reminisce a bit. The saddest part of this for me from the very beginning is that there is no Vladimir Putin.

The APEC Summit did nothing wrong to me but it definitely made my life more difficult with my enrollment because I could not have my subjects pre-enrolled since I handled my shifting from psychology to journalism.

With issues surrounding the summit, some companies should have just given everybody a break so that everyone was spared from the dreadful Metro Manila traffic. The APEC lanes are definitely a show of insensitivity for others making the very citizens of this country truly third class citizens I mean come on, we’re already third class citizens on a ordinary day whether you are in the working class or not. Making them walk long miles truly made it the worst day of their lives.  More important is that some people should have just stayed home and have some family time by watching some movies whether it’s in the cinemas itself or watch a DVD legally and illegally.

The activists again ranting again that the APEC is a joke but that’s just the activist in me doing the typing. For me, when will these people stop? How many demonstrations has it been that these guys raised signs, yelled hard and sparred with the police? BUT WHAT CAN I DO? It’s their so-called “right” that makes them fight for it.

Justin Trudeau

Should I even write about it? I get it that some people in the media want to make the APEC Summit less serious by talking about the good-looking president of Mexico, President Enrique Pena Nieto and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau but again, seriously? Is it the first time that these media personalities saw a good-looking diplomat and on different side of things, if Mitt Romney’s running mate Paul Ryan ran for president instead of him then won that election in 2012 against Barack Obama it might have been a big deal for others and I’m just glad some reporter from that network in Mother Ignacia raised the issue to Prime Minister Trudeau turning this country into Canada’s waste bin and as I type this, I suddenly feel bad that the former mayor from one of his cities is a drug abuser then mocked on Saturday Night Live. Suddenly after all that delight for watching the Toronto Blue Jays trying to beat the Kansas City Royals in the ALCS for me I think the Blue Jays deserved that loss but any way the Royals were already a strong team with their whole team intact.
